Selim L. Sanin is a professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. He received his Ph.D. from Duke University (Durham NC, USA) with his thesis on fate and transport of starved microorganisms. Dr. Sanin's research projects focus on developing engineering tools for biotechnology applications in environmental field. He works on developing control parameters for in-situ (bio)remediation applications to increase the removal efficiency of diffused pollutants (such as pesticides, persistent pollutants and metals) or to obtain a product (i.e. energy or renewable chemicals) from wastes. He also aims at integrating environmental biotechnology processes into circular economy, towards sustainable development.
