Volkmar Passoth is professor for food biotechnology/ Dept of Molecular Sciences at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). He obtained his PhD in 1998 (Aachen University, Germany), became assistant professor at SLU 2002, and habilitated (associate professor) in 2005. He is specialised on microbiology, with a focus on non-conventional yeasts in biofuels, food, feed and other biotechnological applications. During the last years, his group investigated the physiology, genomics and biotechnology of oleaginous yeasts. He co- authored 80 articles in peer reviewed journals (45 as first, senior and/or corresponding author) and 13 book chapters.
